High School Sports Writer

The Seattle Times has an opening for a writer to cover high school sports. Be part of one of the nation's best sports staffs, write for a section annually judged one of the nation's top 10 and join a motivated team that sets the pace for the region's coverage of high-school sports.

Primary responsibility will be covering high-school and community sports in East King County, with duties including back-up for University of Washington football. Candidates must be competitive, motivated, knowledgeable about sports and work well independently and as part of a team. We're looking for someone who can pound out game stories on tight deadline, stay on top of breaking news, craft engaging profiles with voice and flair and produce enterprise projects while covering two of most competitive leagues in the state and about 30 total high schools.

A strong sports-journalism background and daily newspaper experience are required. Schedule varies by season, but candidates must be able to work nights and weekends.

Applicants should send a resume, cover letter and between five and 10 stories to Patricia Foote, AME/ Administration, PO Box 70, Seattle, WA 98111. Or, you can email the same to newsjobs@seattletimes.com. The Seattle Times is a drug-free workplace.
